Secret closet door....

So this is a bad photograph but its all i took so lets go with it.  When i first moved in this was an awful bi-fold metal door.  But on a plus it went all the way (almost) to the ceiling.  This is it replaced with a solid wood door.  Side note, should have gone with a hollow door as it weighs a ton and was a pain to cut down to size.  You live and learn.  Also disregard the silly amount of shoes....

The idea behind this comes from old homes that would have had secret doorways to interlocking rooms.  The key is to have the skirting board (base board) go right across the door so when it is closed it looks like its one complete piece.  You can see the angle of the cut is 45 degrees, this helps disguise it.

a slightly more advanced version of the "secret door".  You get the idea

Here it is painted and you can see how the idea comes together.  There will obviously be a gap as the door has to open but you can see the intent is to have it blend in.

Now this is where it really gets fun.  I hung art all over the wall and especially along the line of the door.  This really adds to the effect of the door not being there. Excuse the awkward shot as this is a narrow space but you can see the clear outline of the door and how the art disguises it.  The large frames are hung by a nail into the door and the with the self adhesive velcro strips that are amazing, they hold the bottom of the frame so it doesn't move.

SEE!! Its as if there isn't a closet there and that i don't have a hoarding issues if you open the closet, what do you think?....Now how to hide those shoes....

Look who came home with me from Hong Kong

This fella, that's who! Couldn't resist a polar bear jug.....
He's from a British company called quail. They do the most amazing ceramics, if your into that (I clearly am).  Take a look at quailceramics.co.uk. I first discovered them back when I was in London and was at Liberty. I bought two egg cups, the black lab and the otter. I have a few more pieces on the way and will share when they get here ....

Favorite things.....Imm Home

Just like Oprah I have favorite things.....
Whilst out shopping in Hong Kong I came across these great things from Imm Home. Because im cheap I always immediately google them to see if there cheaper elsewhere, and of course they are. Take a look at pure home http://www.purehome.com/by/imm_living
They have a bunch of there things and some of them are also in the pop up store "story" over on tenth ave at 18th st in manhattan.  They will be on my Christmas list ...

Now this makes my obsession with whiteware and stoneware a little less old lady and a little more "curated" (isn't that the trending word right now?). I will be adding to the collection with these and mixing them in with all the white vintage stuff. Now I just need a bigger kitchen.....

The bear is my favorite but I would have to spray paint the crown white.  There all so great.

Oh and these cups I have wanted ever since i saw the originals in Liberty when I was back in London in February. These are the cheap versions I found in another store in Hong Kong. I'll explain why I'm in Hong Kong in a later post :-) Anyway these are mine now becasue a squirrel tail and a fox tail mug are essentials in my household.....

Ps: I'm doing these on the mobile app so I can't put links in to the above but I will get around too it.....
